So for the last four years Aaron and I have been pecking away at a huge project....a second house! I don't have a before picture to post unless I can find it on the computer but if you can picture an old, all brown house....well that is pretty much what it was!
We have gutted the insides, got the outside painted, worked on the yard, and this spring we poured a concrete porch which we then acid stained (it turned out better then we could have hoped!)! I also put up an old split rail fence on either side of the front yard which turned out great ( pictures to come)!
This particular house is one of the oldest in our neighborhood. In fact it still has an old horse and carriage hookup.....not to mention an underground spring house we recently uncovered! We are not finished with he inside....there is lots to be done! We have talked about turning it into a bed and breakfast or guest house of some sort but it is too early to tell! So for those of you that have seen our home, everyone knows our love for antiques and old primitives....but since I didn't want to do the same exact style here I have decided to go with a Shabby Chic style.....If you don't know what that means you can google it of course and check out some pictures! Overall it uses a lot of white pieces and a lot of chipped pieces so by doing this style it will brighten up the inside yet still use the primitive style furniture. Some people call it "French country" and is often shown using a lot of old architectural pieces as decorations! Another great thing is I will be able to hit up thrift stores and transform some pieces myself once I figure out some different painting techniques....in fact I already purchased som things to try out and if this goes well maybe I will start selling some of those pieces as well....
Here are a few things we brought back with us from our trip.....it 's a start!
An old decorative painted fence along with lots of great corbels....they can make great bookends or simply hold up a shelf....
Some of these are probably over 100 years old!
The great little white table....$6 at a yard sale....score!
Beautiful pillow and little decorative birdcage.....
Some other great architectural finds.....
Wrought iron candelabra....another great yard sale find!
And this style wouln't be complete without a little bit of tin ceiling....
Complete with the original bullet holes....how cool!
Here is the fab mirror I picked up cheap to paint myself....
As well as these shutters.....
I cannot wait to transform this house on the inside!
